Marobo Hot Springs

Okay, so these photos are fairly old (well, by this blogs standards). I took these in June, and I can't believe that I haven't used them for anything. In fact, I kind of forgot about them completely until going through my TL pics for a story. They are of one of the most beautiful and surreal places I have ever been.

The Morobo hot springs lie in the Bobonaro District of Timor Leste. Surrounded by volcanoes and palm trees, we bathed with the friendly villagers from around the area in the ruined Portugese baths. It was amazing.

Rick

This amazing hunk of a man is my good friend Rick S. We went to high school together. He is a qualified educator, philosopher, and all round good guy.

Boring Plane Photos

I took these ages ago. I know that everyone has these shots. I probably have a few thousand myself. This sunset was just particularly awesome.

A Beautiful Family

About two months ago, the beautiful Soares family of Beto-Tasi, Dili, Timor Leste saw me walking home. Pelagia, a 22 year old lady invited me in to meet her family. She offered me food and Timorese coffee. I was lucky enough to meet her charming husband and her three beautiful children. Their hospitality has stuck in my mind, and I thought I would share the experience on my blog. I wish everyone was so lovely.

Yen Magazine Issue 53

Check it out.

Dili by Air

I guess these pics are a bit old now, but I feel that I should give them a home somewhere. I created these images in mid September at the end of the Dili Marathon. I was fortunate enough to score a flight in a Bell 212 around Dili. Taking off from the Airport, we flew to the east of the city before landing at the military base behind the Palacio Presidente.

The morning 'mist' over Dili. The 'mist' is actually smoke from burning rubbish.

Moments Pass

When my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer, I spent months hoping, begging and praying for her to get better, or at least a few extra months of normality with her. Thankfully, somehow, I was granted this. Through our amazing oncologist and the advance of medical science, my mum was treated with a medication which targeted her cancer specifically and gave us a solid 6 months of respite from her symptoms. It has been amazing, but I knew it couldn't last.
The prescription which the doctor gave to my mum earlier today.

Through her recent MRI scans, we have found that her tumors have started to metastasize and grow. Consequently, she will start chemo in a fortnight. Today has been nothing short of a kick in the guts.

On the other hand, my mum is a tough cooky.  She took the news very well. I mean, we kind of had an inkling this would happen. Her response was to be tough and ready for it. After today's appointment, she was keen to go into the city to get some walking shoes so she could keep taking the dogs for a walk.
We strolled around the city for hours, had a coffee and cake. Her strength gives me strength and I am proud to be the son of such an amazing and strong woman.
